Alot of people today suffer from anxiety and are not even admitted to hospital for this. Doctors and GPs quite regularly administer drugs to treat the illness which is not the best route to take. Drugs commonly prescribed include xanax and valium. While Mary Ellen was out in South East Asia all of her travelling buddies were self-prescribing xanax and valium in order to control their anxiety levels while abroad. She was not participating in this and has noticed that alot of friends at home and abroad continue to use these drugs to control their anxious behaviour. Anxiety stems from fear which is usually portrayed in the media by showing bad news centred around crime on a global level. Continually listening to bad news and allowing daily stresses to stem from within causes a whirl wind of anxiety where the individual thinks that drugs will solve this. Another common problem is that people are getting hold of xanax and valium and selling them on the street at a low cost which adds to the drug war and crime.
