There are several different food guidelines out there in each country which promote the use of a food pyramid or food wheel. One of the biggest contributors to obesity is the huge amount of carbohydrate that is promoted while individuals adopt a relatively sedentary lifestyle. It is recommended to get at least 150 minutes of exercise weekly, however more like an hour should be recommended a day and individuals should be encouraged to build up their fitness regime slowly through more intensive work which elevates the heart rate. Some may view the food pyramid as being slightly skewed due to the high promotion of carbohydrate intake, however this is encouraged for those participating in exercise. Protein recommendations are becoming quite skewed with too many individuals following a paleo lifestyle which adds to heart disease. Unsaturated fatty acids are essential to cellular growth and saturated fat is also needed in certain amounts.
