Lithium is the most widely studied drug used to treat mania. Mary has met alot of individuals taking lithium to taper off other pharmaceutical and street drugs. Although it is supposed to prevent suicide, she sees alot of people depressed on this drug as it is similar to the AAP (anti-psychotics) which she was taking. People on lithium exhibit dilated pupils and have alot of fear and anxiety built up from taking the drug. In Mary’s opinion these type of drugs should not be dished out to individuals to treat mental illness and the WRAP approach (wellness and recovery) should be used instead.
